Equine Gastrointestinal Parasites

The Problem

We are rapidly approaching a precipice when it comes to worms in horses. Around the world there is increasing resistance to all classes of anthelmintics, and there are no new ones in development.

What does this mean for you and your horse?

It means that horses will start suffering clinical disease, and even death, from parasite burdens in the near future and we will have no effective treatments to prevent the disease, or their death.

What can you do?

*Stop routinely worming your horse every 8 weeks *Start consulting with your vet and doing faecal egg counts and using targeted worming strategies *Collect and dispose of manure appropriately

Surely it costs a lot more this way?

*Incorrect - approx 70-80% of adult horses will only require worming once a year *Olive Grove Equine Clinic will run a faecal egg count for $30 *We also offer an annual whole farm management package, where we will do all the required testing and supply all the required wormers. Pricing will depend on the number of horses on your property and their relatives ages, but will be cost competitive with your current model of worming every 8-10 weeks.
